The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD), in partnership with Orange County law-enforcement agencies and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, served numerous early-morning search warrants and conducted several probation and parole searches Wednesday, netting guns, computers, money and narcotics.
In April of this year the LBPD initiated an investigation into a robbery crew made up of Asian gang members. During the course of the four-month investigation, detectives determined the suspects were possibly involved in several home-invasion robberies, burglaries, and other thefts in the greater Long Beach and Orange County areas.
Wednesday’s operation targeted 47 locations throughout both counties and resulted in 17 arrests for various felony charges including, possession of stolen property, possession of narcotics for sales, elder abuse, forgery-fraud, identity theft, probation and parole violations, and outstanding warrants.
Detectives also seized: six handguns; a quantity of narcotics, including methamphetamine, ecstasy and marijuana; paraphernalia commonly associated with narcotic sales; cash proceeds from the sales of narcotics; items stolen from robberies and burglaries, including Rolex and Movado watches, computers, forged checks, and personal profiles for the purpose of identity theft; and gang paraphernalia.
According to a press release issued Wednesday by the LBPD, detectives are seeing a trend in robberies throughout the Southern California area, where gang members from both allied gangs and rival gangs are teaming up with the sole purpose of committing lucrative crimes. Detectives identified approximately 19 suspects that were associated with five different Asian gangs.
The operation partnered the LBPD with the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Operation Safe Street Bureau, Westminster PD, Garden Grove PD, Fountain Valley PD, State Parole, Los Angeles County Probation Department’s DISARM Unit, and the Department of Children and FamilyService’s MART team.
Anyone with additional information regarding these crimes is encouraged to call LBPD Gang Enforcement Detectives Jason Garcia or Detective George Ayala at (562) 570-7370.
