The Long Beach Redevelopment Agency (RDA) announce this week that the Long Beach Boulevard Streetscape Improvement project from Del Amo Boulevard to 56th Street will be completed on schedule and under budget, which allows for the expansion of the project.
“The Long Beach Redevelopment Agency’s investment in infrastructure will help revitalize a key corridor that extends through the heart of the city,” said Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster. “By completing this on time and saving money, the RDA is proving their commitment to proactive management and fiscal responsibility, allowing them to apply surplus funds back into the project for even more improvements in the neighborhood.”
After the initial improvements are finished in mid-October, additional work will be done further south on Long Beach Boulevard to 53rd Street and will be completed by the end of November.
“The Long Beach Boulevard improvements include street surface reconstruction, decorative pavers and lighting, and new concrete sidewalks, trees, bus shelters and landscaped medians,” said 8th District Councilmember Rae Gabelich. “The improvements will go a long way toward revitalizing the entire neighborhood and help restore the unique pedestrian-oriented experience in the Virginia Village area, which is the historic core of North Long Beach.”
For over a decade, the North Long Beach community, RDA staff, and the Department of Public Works have worked together to identify opportunities for streetscape improvements along major corridors to enhance the unique identity, attractiveness and livability of North Long Beach.
