Historical Society Meeting
The Signal Hill Historical Society will hold a general meeting open to the public tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the Signal Hill Library, located at 1770 East Hill Street in Signal Hill. A nominating committee will be appointed to prepare for the upcoming election of officers next month. Residents are encouraged to attend and participate. Valentine’s Day Dinner
The public is invited to the Museum of Latin American Art’s Valentine’s Dinner tonight from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Guests can enjoy an exquisite gourmet Valentine dinner served with special Latin American wine. Health Seminar
The Long Beach Memorial Medical Center is having a women’s health seminar Saturday, Feb. 16 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Houssels Forum. The seminar, entitled “Women, Heart Disease and Stroke,” is designed specifically for women and will teach them to recognize and manage heart disease and stroke risk factors. Free on-site cardiovascular screenings will also be provided for all attendees, and reservations are required. Long Beach Memorial Medical Center is located at 2801 Atlantic Avenue in Long Beach. Bird Watch and Kayak
Join the Aquarium of the Pacific on a kayaking journey and bird-watching adventure Saturday, Feb. 16 from 9 a.m. to noon. Led by an aquarium naturalist guide, the expedition gives guests the opportunity to see and learn about birds, plants, geological features, archaeological sites and marine biology. Genealogical Society Meeting
The Questing Heirs Genealogical Society of Long Beach will have its February meeting Sunday, Feb. 17 in the Parish Hall of the Resurrection Lutheran Church, located at 1900 East Carson Street (one block west of Cherry Avenue) in Long Beach. The meeting, which starts at 12:30 p.m., will offer one-on-one or small-group help for guests and afterward a presentation entitled “New Web sites FREE at Family History Centers” will be given by Alan Jones. Take Back Pine Avenue cleanup
People interested in improving the quality of life in Long Beach are invited to participate in the cleanup of the neighborhood just north of Pacific Coast Highway on Pine Avenue. Dubbed “Take Back Pine Avenue,” the event is sponsored by several neighborhood groups, nonprofit organizations and several other city departments. The cleanup begins at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 23. Elks Breakfast
The Elks of Bellflower/Long Beach invite the public to join them for their monthly Elks Breakfast Sunday, Feb. 24 from 8 a.m. to noon. The menu includes scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash brown potatoes, fruit, waffles, orange juice and coffee, among other items. The cost is $5.50 per person. The Elks Lodge is located at 16426 Bellflower Boulevard in Bellflower.

Health Fair
On Monday, Feb. 25, St. Mary Medical Center will host its annual Black History Month health fair entitled “Body and Soul: A Wellness Forum” from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Health Enhancement Center on St. Mary’s campus, located at 1050 Linden Avenue in Long Beach. The community is invited to participate in free health screenings, visit the health information booths, enjoy gospel music and partake in the array of healthy soul food.
