Buyart Studios is preparing for its 2008 spring show from April 12 to May 3 with fellow Alumni from Otis Parsons, K.L. Thomas. The show “Revealing Images” will feature new artwork by owner Dawn Morishige and a collection of paintings by Thomas.
Thomas’s work consists of ethereal figures layered with paint and paper. They are described as beautiful and haunting as well as thought provoking. K.L. is an established artist who has shown all over California from San Francisco to Pomona, with many of her pieces in private collections across the country.
“These images are metaphors for our memories as well as the things we have forgotten,” said Thomas.
The artwork of Dawn Morishige is an innovative take on a background of photography and does not fit into a singular discipline. As the viewer interacts with the work, it starts to reveal the intricacies and details of the varied media which stretch and blend to become one object.
Morishige said, “I create work that evolves, as everything does throughout the day, in the changing light of the sun. Light enables the process of revealing the inner workings and layers of my work.”
Buyart Studios is a local studio gallery that provides custom framing in house. The Otis Alumni Art Show is hosting an artists’ reception Saturday, April 12 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Buyart Studios is located at 2828 East 10th Street in Long Beach.
