Rancho Los Cerritos invites the public to learn all about daily life on a 19th century California rancho as their group tours the 1844 adobe house, plays historic games in the gardens, and helps complete daily ranch work. Ranch Adventure tours are free for groups of 6-24 elementary-aged children. Call (562) 570-1755 to schedule a tour today.
Discover the history of the gardens at the rancho, originally planted in the 1840s. Garden tours are the first Sunday of the month at 2:30 pm.
Lecture series at the Rancho explores the experience of new citizens and immigrant groups in California, focusing on people who played important roles in our region.

Diagonal Toastmasters meet every Thursday from 6:15 p.m. – 7:30 pm at 545 E. Bixby Road. Even experienced speakers can benefit from Toastmasters’ proven training programs. In a Toastmasters club, you’ll learn to relax, plan and present a terrific speech, whether you have 10 days to prepare or just 10 seconds. You’ll learn to listen effectively, think on your feet and speak confidently in a wide range of situations. Bixby Knolls Strollers have been touring the area with walks up and down the boulevards, to Forest Lawn Cemetery, through Rancho Los Cerritos, to the Cliff May homes, through California Heights, and over to the Dominguez Gap. The group keeps growing in size. Routes are approximately 3.5 miles and change each week. The Strollers meet every Saturday at Starbucks (Atlantic & San Antonio) and head out at 7:30am. Free coffee is provided. Friendly dogs are welcome too, with LaunderPet providing bags to dog owners.
Catered Manor Nursing and Rehab Center will be hosting an open house on Thursday, June 5, from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm. Located at 4010 Virginia Road, Catered Manor is the only nursing center in Bixby Knolls that offers short and long-term care. Refreshments will be provided. The goal of Summer Shutters is to capture all the beauty, nuances and charm of Bixby Knolls, California Heights, Virginia Country Club and Los Cerritos neighborhoods. This includes the businesses, the people, the environment, the streets, and the subtleties of this special area of Long Beach all during a 24-hour period. This contest is inspired by and modeled after “Justin Rudd’s ‘Say Cheese! Long Beach'” photo contest. What does a typical day look like in “the Knolls?” For 1,440 minutes, beginning at noon on the summer solstice, Saturday, June 21, 2008, and ending at noon on Sunday, June 22, 2008, life in Bixby Knolls will be immortalized through digital photography. Cash and product prizes! Everyone is encouraged to participate in the contest, professional and amateurs alike. All ages welcome.
