World Environment Day, commemorated each year on June 5, is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action.
The World Environment Day slogan for 2008 is Kick the Habit! Towards a Low Carbon Economy. Recognizing that climate change is becoming the defining issue of our era, The United Nations Environment Program is asking countries, companies and communities to focus on greenhouse gas emissions and how to reduce them.
The World Environment Day will highlight resources and initiatives that promote low carbon economies and lifestyles, such as improved energy efficiency, alternative energy sources, forest conservation and eco-friendly consumption.
This year Courtyard Care Center of Signal Hill will start the tradition of celebrating World Environment Day at the community level organized by their facility activities director, Dennis Guray.
Residents, team staff and family members will showcase their respect for the environment. The activities will cover a variety of topics, including clean-up campaigns in the morning around the neighborhood, clean-and-green discussions, and showcasing resident’s talent in painting in the afternoon.
Courtyard Care invites the public to join them Thursday, June 5 at 10:30 a.m. for a clean-up campaign in the neighborhood, asking for 30 minutes of time to celebrate this special cause for the environment. Courtyard Care Center is located at 1880 Dawson Avenue in Signal Hill.
