A 24-year-old man is dead after being struck by gunfire in his upper torso, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).
On Friday, Feb. 21, at approximately 1:55pm, officers responded to a “shots fired” call near 59th Street and Linden Avenue.
When officers arrived, they discovered that the victim, identified as Christopher Lane of Long Beach, had been struck by gunfire. He was transported to a local hospital by Long Beach Fire Department paramedics and was determined to be deceased shortly thereafter.
Information gathered through the preliminary investigation indicated that two black males were seen fleeing from the location on foot. A motive for the shooting is unknown, but the incident is being investigated as possibly gang-related.
