Both Long Beach and Signal Hill was partying with a purpose during National Night Out Tuesday.
Each year, Long Beach resident Stella Davis opens her front yard on Salt Lake Street to celebrate National Night Out and invites Block Club members, neighbors, CNAC, Police Officers, friends and family (pictured left). There was food for everyone straight from her own kitchen and balloons and games for the children. Friends and neighbors also visited with members of the Long Beach Police Department as children enjoy a piñata.
Just across town, the Signal Hill Police Department had its 5th Annual National Night Out at Reservoir Park, located 3315 Gundry Avenue (pictured right). The evening included activities such as balloon art, face painting, an art maker, a bounce house, bicycle reflectors provided by Target, bike helmets from Knights of Pythias, and free child identification kits. A DJ also provided music, and the Police Mobile Command Vehicle and the L.A. County Station 60 fire truck were both on-site for viewing.
National Night Out is a nationwide event that encourages communities to join in partnership with police departments across the country in an attempt to discourage crime.
