Rancho Los Cerritos will host Adobe Adventures, a week of hands-on activities for ages 6 through 10 that focus on the role of clay soil in California history, from Monday, July 27 through Friday, July 31.

Children will mix adobe soil with their feet, make sun-dried adobe bricks and learn how to build an adobe house similar to the historic 1844 home, according to Rancho officials.

The camp will include information about archaeological artifacts found on the Rancho grounds, and kids will make coiled and pinch pots from clay. They will also explore the gardens, paint with water-colors, weave baskets and learn to tell stories with Native-American sign language.

The camp will be from 10am to 2pm daily, and the fee is $100 per camper; scholarships may be available.

Space is limited, and advance registration is required.
