Homeless but not hopeless
The hepatitis-A outbreak that has spread from San Diego County is serious and life-threatening. The Governor’s declaration is key to helping LA County and all jurisdictions get the vaccines we need to for our at-risk populations.
My office is coordinating new efforts with the Department of Public Health to vaccinate homeless individuals in the 4th District. In the coming weeks, we will be sending outreach workers into encampments, deploying a mobile vaccination unit, and hosting vaccine events at local clinics.

A protection connection
I want to thank you very much for sending Denny Cristales out to cover our event. [“The ‘destructive’ choice between abuser and homelessness: Annual event recognized the victims of domestic-violence incidents and promoted prevention strategies.” Oct. 13, 2017] The article was so nicely written and very informative. He captured the sentiments of the evening and conveyed the very important message that domestic violence is something that everyone should care about.
