Sixth District Councilmember Dee Andrews hosted the 10th annual “Serving with a Thankful Heart” Thanksgiving banquet event on Monday, Nov. 20. More than 1,500 Long Beach residents gathered for the meal service at Ernest McBride Park. “What is a frozen turkey to a homeless person? Nothing! So, I came up with the idea of serving everyone a hot meal,” Andrews said during his welcome speech at the banquet. The free event included guest servers, such as track-and-field Olympic medalist John Rambo, 4th District Councilmember Daryl Supernaw, City Prosecutor Doug Haubert, City Attorney Charles Parkin, Steve Gooding from the Long Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau and Long Beach Police Department commanders Jeffrey Berkenkamp— from the west division— and Michael Lewis— from the south division— and Deputy Chief Richard Conant with the investigations division. The event also included the support of local partners: Long Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau; Long Beach Hilton Hotel; Renaissance Hotel; Hyatt; Maya Hotel; Westin Hotel; Long Beach Marriott; Holiday Inn; Queen Mary; Long Beach Yellow Cab; Northgate Markets; and Ralph’s Grocery Company.
