The owner of one of Signal Hill’s longtime businesses has died, just a month after her dry-cleaning operation had to close its doors, according to a family source.

Tina Lee, 55, owned and operated Luu’s Dry Cleaners and Alteration at 3344 Orange Ave. for 25 years, according to her son Johnny Lee, who spoke to the Signal Tribune Thursday afternoon.

“She’s been there forever, and a lot of the people in the local neighborhood know her,” Johnny said. “It sucks that, when she got sick four or five months ago, she wasn’t able to work anymore, and we don’t have contact information for her customers who saw her on a weekly basis, so we wanted to use a newspaper to remind them about her, so, if they want to go to the viewing and burial, that’s an option.”

He said that, because of his mother’s illness, the business had to close permanently.

“Her husband— my dad— was running it, pretty much the last half of the year, but he got really [tired], and my mom is the main person who fixes the clothes and alters them,” Johnny said. “Without her, there isn’t really a business anymore.”

Tina Lee was born in Kien Giang, Vietnam on Dec. 2, 1962 and succumbed to breast cancer on Dec. 1, 2017, according to her son, who said she had battled with the disease about a year.

Tina is survived by her husband Johnson Nguyen and her two sons, Johnny Lee, 30, and Danny Lee, 28.

Her viewing will be Sunday, Dec. 10 from 9am to 9pm at Forest Lawn—Covina Hills, 21300 Via Verde Dr., in Covina.
