Neighbors from the Gardenia/Rose Avenue Neighborhood Association in North Long Beach hosted a fundraiser last November to raise money to purchase bicycles for the Long Beach Police Department’s North Division bike patrol. “After a neighborhood meeting with North Division Commander Billy Quach last fall, the neighbors decided to hold a fundraiser to raise money for the new bicycles,” said Calvena Sisk, fundraising coordinator. “We offered a bake sale, drawing for auction items and delicious tacos made by one of our neighbors. The event took on a life of its own, raising enough money for one bike.”
After learning of the grassroots fundraising efforts, Paramount Petroleum generously offered matching funds and two giant trance patrol bicycles were procured in February. Proceeds from the fundraiser were directed to the Long Beach Police Foundation as a directed donation to the North Division for Bikes.
