Long Beach City Prosecutor Doug Haubert and Dr. Felton Williams of the Long Beach Unified School District Board will be honored at Goodwill’s “Celebrate the Power of Work” awards dinner on Wednesday, Feb. 28. The awards event is held annually to honor community leaders as well as individuals who have transformed their lives through job programs offered by Goodwill, Serving the People of Southern Los Angeles County (SOLAC).
The awards event will recognize an Employer of the Year for its role in hiring participants of Goodwill SOLAC’s job programs. A Community Partner of the Year award also will be presented during the event.
Three individuals who now lead successful careers through Goodwill job programs will also receive special recognition. The Achiever of the Year award will be presented to Anthony Batten, a machine operator who was hired by Arconic through Goodwill SOLAC’s Supported Employment Program that helps employ individuals with development disabilities. Damon Richardson will receive the Graduate of the Year award for his outstanding performance in Goodwill SOLAC’s Loss Prevention Training Program and for leading a career as a campus safety officer. The Graduate Employee of the Year award will be presented to Krystal Urzua, who also graduated from the Loss Prevention Training Program and steadily moved up the ranks at Goodwill SOLAC to become its compliance, risk and safety officer.
Local radio personality Pat Prescott of 94.7 The Wave will host the event. Attendees will be able to participate in the event’s unique silent auction before taking their seats for the dinner and awards program.
The awards dinner will take place at the Pacific Ballroom of the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center. All proceeds from the event will go toward funding Goodwill SOLAC’s mission— providing job training and placement programs for those with barriers to employment, according to SOLAC.
