Thousands attended a memorial service for Long Beach Fire Captain Dave Rosa on Tuesday morning in the arena of the Long Beach Convention Center. The event, which was open to the public, drew public-service officials from around the country. Rosa was killed in the line of duty while responding to a fire alarm at a local retirement home in the early-morning hours of June 25. His coworker, Ernesto Torres, and a male resident of the facility were also shot and injured when 77-year-old Thomas Kim, also a resident of the building, opened fire on them during the fire department’s response. Kim was arrested and booked for murder, two counts of attempted murder and arson. Rosa is survived by his wife and two adult children.
