Greenly Art Space, 2698 Junipero Ave #113 in Signal Hill, will host an opening reception on Aug. 4 for In Their Own Style, an exhibit that will include six artists from the Long Beach Creative Group (LBCG). Featured artists are Marka Burns, Donald Tiscareno, Robyn Feeley, Greg Fritsche, Michiel Daniel and Dorte Christjansen.

“The Long Beach Creative Group is dedicated to expanding the arts and making sure there is viable space for local artists to showcase their work,” according to a press release from Greenly. “Through their organization, they spread awareness of the issue of lack of space available for artists to exhibit their particular art form.”

In the show, different styles, aesthetics and materials create multiple unique pieces. One of the artists, Marka Burns, with whom Greenly has been working to curate the show, is exhibiting her own work, which consists largely of digital imagery and mixed media to create a conversation about identity and disguise.

Tiscareno will be showing pieces that reference inspiration he has drawn from work he viewed in Paris in the early ‘60s.
Feeley creates pastel painting on velour board with images of lively sea creatures inspired by those found in the Long Beach area.
Fritsche is an impressionist painter from California who takes on the plein-air style.

Daniel’s work takes a surrealist approach by considering the distortion and digitation of electronic images.
Christjansen’s work consists mainly of watercolor paintings and batiks with lively colors that take inspiration from surrounding landscapes, her own garden and other locations.

“I have worked with many of these artists over the last five years for multiple group exhibits at Greenly,” said Kimberly Hocking, director of the nonprofit gallery. “I have been consistently impressed with each artist’s inspiration and artistic mastery in contemplating the multiple themes for these exhibits. We are excited to exhibit and share their work with the community.”

The opening will take place Saturday, Aug. 4 from 7pm to 9pm. The exhibit will run through Sept. 29 and can be viewed by appointment at (562) 533-4020 or during regular gallery hours: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays from 11am to 2pm. Visit greenlyartspace.org.
