•Long Beach Transit Director and longtime community leader Mary Zendejas announced on June 7 her campaign to fill the vacancy left by Senator-Elect Lena Gonzalez to represent the 1st District on the Long Beach City Council.
Former Sustainability Commissioner Elliot Gonzales has announced his run for the 1st District Long Beach council seat. Gonzales served on the commission from 2010 to 2018. In 2018, he ran for Assembly District 70.

•On June 19, small-business owner and Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine Commissioner Mariela Salgado officially announced her campaign for the vacant Long Beach City Council District 1 seat. Salgado is an education advocate who currently serves as a Long Beach Unified School District School site representative and an Edison Elementary school site council member.

•Robert Fox, a 35-year resident of the 2nd Council District in Long Beach, announced June 14 he has entered the race to represent that district on the city council.
Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia has endorsed Vice Mayor Dee Andrews for re-election next year to Long Beach’s 6th District City Council seat, according to a June 13 email from Re-Elect Vice Mayor Dee Andrews To Long Beach City Council 2020.

•Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia has also given his support for 8th District Long Beach Councilmember Al Austin for re-election, according to a June 14 email from Austin’s campaign.

•Former 7th District Long Beach City Councilmember Tonia Reyes Uranga announced on June 13 her campaign for school board. Uranga, who served on Long Beach’s City Council between 2002 and 2010, is a candidate for the Long Beach Unified School District Board seat that is currently held by Felton Williams. Williams is not seeking re-election.
