Long Beach gunshot victim drives away from scene of shooting, hospitalized

A man was hospitalized Friday morning in Long Beach with non-life-threatening injuries he suffered in a shooting and the shooter was at-large.

Officers located the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the lower body near the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway about 1:20 a.m., according to Lt. James Richardson of the Long Beach Police Department.

Long Beach Fire Department paramedics were called to the scene and transported the victim to a hospital, he said.

A preliminary investigation determined the victim was wounded in a shooting near 14th Street and Chestnut Avenue and was able to drive himself to the area of Atlantic Avenue and PCH, where he was found by police, Richardson said.

A description of the shooter was not immediately available. A motive for the shooting was under investigation. The age and name of the victim was not disclosed. The Signal Tribune inquired with the LBPD about the status of the shooter.

Police officials said gang detectives were sent to investigate. The investigation is still ongoing.
