Woman killed, two others hurt in SUV crash on Long Beach freeway transition

A woman in her 40s was killed and two others, a man and a boy, were seriously hurt in a single-vehicle rollover crash on Monday, May 25 on the transition road between the northbound San Diego (405) and northbound Long Beach (710) freeways in Long Beach, according to authorities.

The crash was reported about 3:30 p.m., with the SUV turned over on its roof and three people trapped inside as firefighters arrived at the scene, said Long Beach Fire Department Capt. Jack Crabtree.

Firefighters, he said, had to use the jaws of life to free the trapped occupants.

The woman died at the scene, he said. Her name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

A man, also in his 40s, and a boy, of unknown age, were transported to a hospital in critical condition, Crabtree said.

The transition road was temporarily closed for the death investigation, California Highway Patrol Officer Stephan Brandt said.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation by the CHP.
