Pedestrian in SH struck by, pinned under vehicle

On Monday, March 8, 2010, at approximately 8:30pm, Signal Hill Police Department (SHPD) officers were dispatched to the intersection of Hill Street and Rose Avenue regarding a traffic collision involving a pedestrian.
A vehicle had been traveling southbound on Rose Avenue, approaching Hill Street, and struck a female pedestrian who was walking westbound on Hill Street. When officers arrived, she was trapped underneath the vehicle.
The pedestrian, a juvenile, suffered serious injuries. Officers flagged down passing motorists and acquired vehicle jacks to lift the vehicle off the victim, who had sustained serious injuries.
Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics treated her at the scene and transported her to Long Beach Memorial Hospital for emergency medical treatment, where she is currently listed in critical condition. The vehicle’s driver, yet unidentified, was evaluated for driving under the influence and was later released at the scene.
The SHPD Traffic Division is currently investigating the collision.
