They were piling on the calories in Signal Hill last Saturday at the grand re-opening of the Subway restaurant located at 3225 E. Pacific Coast Hwy. Entering the 2pm Macho Man Eating Competition, Napoleon Lakeith, Scott Kankam (Subway employee), Scott Anthony and Dustin Crecelius accepted the challenge to be the first to consume two foot-long sandwiches and a freshly baked cookie in the shortest amount of time. Stopping only to gulp down swigs of soda, the four kept up the pace until the task was completed. Winning a $50 Subway gift card, Crecelius’s only response to victory was his breathy exclamation “Can I have a refill?” while holding up his empty beverage container. Other grand-opening activities for the day included face painting, DJ-hosted music and buy-1-get-1 free specials on subs and salads. A ribbon-cutting ceremony sponsored by the Signal Hill Chamber of Commerce took place at noon the day before.
