Long Beach City College to host 35th annual plant sale

LBCC Plant Sale 2004The Long Beach City College Horticulture Club will present its 35th Annual Plant Sale, Wednesday, April 4, to Saturday, April 7, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the college’s Pacific Coast Campus, at 1305 East Pacific Coast Highway, in Long Beach.

Thousands of indoor and outdoor plants will be sold at grower prices. According to the program’s director David Frattalone, the club planted 62 varieties of tomato plants, 22 varieties of peppers, six varieties of eggplant and at least 20 varieties of herbs.
Frattalone said this year there are many heirlooms and new introductions.

“We have indoor plants galore,” he said, including a new hardy variety of Boston fern, anthuriums, wintergreen and variegated Ficus benjamina, and red cordylines. Outdoor sun or shade plants such as yellow cape honey suckle, fuchsias, shrimp plants, pink heron’s bill, sago palms, china dolls, colorful annuals and perennials, lettuce bowls, color bowls, succulent bowls, and more than 70 varieties of water-wise and drought tolerant plants will also be on sale with many others.
