The Signal Hill Police Department has selected Senior Police Officer Russ Hefte as the 2010 Officer of the Year. Hefte was hired as a police recruit in 2003 and selected as Employee of the Quarter during the third quarter of 2004.
He was assigned to the detective bureau in 2009 and was also selected as senior police officer during the same year. In 2010, Hefte was assigned as a patrol senior police officer.
Hefte’s ancillary duties have included serving as an instructor in “less than lethal” weapons and taser, AED Coordinator, Citizen’s Police Academy Instructor, Field Training Officer and a member of the Building Committee for the new police station.
“Senior Officer Hefte has led by example in all facets of our profession,” said Interim Police Chief Roy Campos. “Russ treats people with respect, has an exemplary work ethic, and has been an outstanding representative of the Signal Hill Police Department.”
