valley-vaulters.jpgThe Rancho Rio Verde Riding Club is having a “Day in the Country” Sunday, Oct. 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. “Day in the Country” is a special fundraiser for the Valley View Vaulters, a nonprofit organization that teaches vaulting to both handicapped and non-handicapped people of all ages.
Vaulting is described as gymnastics done on the back of a horse. Physically and mentally challenged children take part in the sport to help build self-esteem, coordination and gives them the confidence to live more independent, productive and normal lives.
“It is a rewarding experience to see the riders of all abilities and disabilities working together on the backs of ‘Gentle Giant’ horses,” said Riding Club employee Robin Wall in a press release.
According to Wall, the program hopes to draw families around the community out to participate in the fundraiser and let parents of special needs children know of their services.
Held at Rancho Rio Verde, “Day in the Country” will feature horse demonstrations, Frisbee Dogs, live Blues Music and Johnny Rebs’ barbecue. Among the attractions are drill teams on horseback, McGruff of the Long Beach Police Department, a tour of Long Beach fire and ambulance vehicles, Greyhound rescue dogs, vendors, a silent auction and a drawing for an electric mini-bike.
Tickets for “Day in the Country” are $12 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under. Rancho Rio Verde is located at 1000 West Carson Street in Long Beach.
